The Island of Lost Personalities

>> Tuesday, January 22, 2008

Back in high school, my history/English/government/humanities teacher had a little paper island on the back wall with a picture of Rod McKuen. Rod being the best selling poet of the 70s and possibly beyond that. I don't really know and don't really care. On the first day of our AP US History class, we were treated to an audio sampling (on an LP!) of Rod's poetry. Needless to say, Rod earned his place on the wall. He was sentenced to the "Island of Lost Personalities." Actually, he was either the King or the Prince of the Island. I don't remember which. We could nominate anyone we wanted to the Island as long as they weren't faculty, a member of the school, a former member of the school, etc. as long as we had a reason they should be there. There were a lot of celebrities stranded there including Bill Clinton. Bill was probably there for both terms.
