How does Pixar keep on making such perfect movies? Okay, the focus on having an excellent story is their primary starting point, but such great characters is clearly step two. Carl Fredricksen is such a fully realized character that by the time the movie got to the end I wanted to see more of Carl's new life. We got to see so much of it in the movie--his childhood, his marriage, his widowhood--that the end credits almost didn't seem like enough.

When Carl and Russell were in South America, all I could think about was "How are they going to make it back? Are they going to make it back?"

They do. But what an adventure they had.

And those dogs. Those talking collars were nothing but ingenious, particularly making the "Alpha" dog's collar malfunction and sound like Alvin of the Chipmunks.

Of course, it wouldn't be a Pixar film without a Pixar short. And the very cute Partly Cloudy went by in a flash.
