The Daily Dumbass: Sarah Palin on HR 3200

>> Friday, August 14, 2009

It's either Sarah Palin or her Facebook ghostwriter who needs to go back to school. Posted yesterday, via Facebook, was this statement regarding one of the health care bills:

I join millions of Americans in expressing appreciation for the Senate Finance Committee’s decision to remove the provision in the pending health care bill that authorizes end-of-life consultations (Section 1233 of HR 3200). [Emphasis mine]
1. Congress is in recess. No committee has done anything since the August recess started. No committee will be doing anything until Congress returns from recess.
2. HR 3200 is a bill in the House of Representatives, not the Senate. There are two houses in Congress, the Senate and the House of Representatives; each has their own numbering system for legislation. The Senate just uses "S" and the number, e.g. S. 1584.
3. Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) does not control the Senate Finance committee, no matter how desperately your followers think he does. He is not even the committee chair. His statements do not mean anything given that a) the Senate is not in session and b) anything removed from the Senate Finance Committee bill would be put up to a vote in order to be removed. Grassley can't do it himself by making statements to the press.

This "victory" conservatives/Republicans are claiming in the press really isn't a victory at all.
